I’ll start out by saying that I have been a CentSports.com better for over a year now. Back when I was in college, my friends and I would try to make good picks for all of the sports games that we were going to watch. I still make bets from time to time, but am not as much of a hardcore gambling addict as I was back then. I guess it’s not even really gambling since it’s not using my own money (it’s basically free money that’s given to all of the users to make bets for free).
My personal high on the website was $88.57 and my win percentage was around 60% at the time, which I thought was pretty damn good. I have made it to around $140, but since it was my high for less than a 24 hour period and I ended up losing it, my personal high shows $88.57, which is still pretty damn good. Anyways, I’m here to write about whether I think Centsports is a legitimate website that can be used to make money online or whether it’s a complete joke, so continue reading if you’re interested.
How CentSports.com works and is set up
1. You start with a free dime a.k.a. 10 cents
When you first become a member of CentSports, they give you a dime with a big Abe Lincoln face on it (and it’s brown like the color of a penny). So basically it’s one huge ass penny that’s worth ten cents. After you click “deposit” the dime goes into your account and you’re ready to get rolling with some bets, so you click “make new bet” and get started.
So the next thing you do is look at the upcoming games and place a bet on the team that you think is going to win (moneyline), total points scored (over/under total), or how much the winning team will win by (points spread). After you have selected your bet amount, just click on “place bet” and an offer for a bonus will pop up if your balance is under $3.00.
You will have the opportunity to get up to a 100% advertiser bonus on your first bet, up to a 50% bonus if you’re under 25 cents (I think) and 25% bonus if you’re under $3 unless you make a 5-line parlay. A parlay is basically when you select more than one team to win in a combined bet. Both teams you select to win must win in order for you to win the bet.
2. You can recruit cronies to help earn you money (5% commissions)
Another feature of the website involves recruiting what are called “cronies.” Basically they’re just referrals of friends that you recommend to the website. You have to use a special link though so you’ll want to make sure to use your affiliate link in your account so that you get credit for referring them as well as so they show up on you “friends list” immediately.
Although the 5% commissions don’t seem like much (you basically make 5 cents/a nickel for every $1.00 that your friends make, it all adds up). One of my friends made me like $10.00 in a week when he was up near $100.00 – but this kid is seriously good at betting so you may not get as much to work with as I got, but it’s still worth a shot.
3. When you turn your ten cents into $20 or more, do you get paid?
Well the point of the website is to make money, so they don’t allow everyone over $20 to get paid. They only pay out a select number of people every so often due to all of the members and competition. Heck I think they might have a negative cash flow if they paid everybody that signed up for the free sports betting website. So what do they base the cashout criteria on when deciding who gets paid and who doesn’t?

The cash out procedure has to do with the following criteria:
- Win percentage (how many bets you won out of total bets placed)
- Average line
- Average bet amount (the higher the bet amount, the better)
- Total number of bets placed
All of these criteria are factored into a quality score out of 100. The higher your quality score, the greater your chances will be to actually get a check from CentSports.
The maximum amount that people are allowed to cashout is $250.00 according to the website. So if you want to improve your chances of cashing out, keep in mind your quality score the entire time instead of just making completely random bets without any strategy. If you are just screwing around and don’t want to cash out, that’s totally legit too.
4. How can you really get paid if it’s a free website?
The website makes its payouts by using advertising money that it collects. Every time there are advertisement impressions or someone clicks on an advertisement on CentSports.com, their owner makes money. Since I’m sure he’s probably into making money for himself, he probably doesn’t want to pay out everybody that’s on the website that is above $20 and requesting a payout. So instead what he does is make his own rules for hierarchy of payout.
Basically though, you’ve got to realize that they make money from all of the advertisements and referrals that they give to Sportsbook. I’m not sure how much traffic CentSports gets on a daily basis, but I’d say that it gets more than enough to make a decent chunk of change each month for the owner and/or founders. So what they do is take their profits, and make sure that they payout whoever deserves it each month based on the competition hierarchy.
5. Why the CentSports.com website is not a scam
Well since it’s basically free sports betting online, it’s tough to label it as a scam just because I haven’t gotten any money from it and my friends have had failed attempts which you can read about below. I think that the website is legitimate, but that it’s just extremely difficult for most people to qualify based on the tough criteria that they set and based on the fact that you are competing with hundreds if not thousands of other people across the United States trying to get their share of the free money that’s available.
Something that’s free isn’t a scam in my opinion. I know a lot of people that were wondering whether there is a CentSports scam going on and in my opinion, there’s not. I have talked to a few people that claimed they got paid. Whether those people were being honest, I have no clue. However, if I ever get a check from them, I’m definitely going to post it up with a picture on this website. Plus I might just keep it as a souvenir instead of cashing it since they’re so rare (kidding, but they are rare).
6. Friends that have tried a CentSports cash out
One of my friends tried to cash out and his highest balance was $83.29 with a win percentage of over 61% – which is pretty damn impressive. This kid was just betting for fun in his free time and then decided what the hell, why not try to cash out? So he ended up trying to cash out with that balance and he didn’t get any response. He kept having to “work his way up” in the cash out bracket based on various criteria that they set.
After he finally made it up into the top of the cash out group that he was with, he clicked on “cash out” and it still didn’t work. He didn’t hear anything from CentSports.com, their staff, and he emailed their direct headquarters asking why he can’t just get his money. So I’m wondering if the website is basically just a time trap. Sure it’s cool to still see how well you can do betting, but if the website claims to actually pay out people money when they are eligible for cashout, and doesn’t follow through on that, I’d have to say that it’s a scam.
Another one of my friends, who was well over $100 on the website tried to cash out, and his attempt didn’t work either. He had to always try to work his way up to the top and compete for percentages. So my question for the website is how do we know that they don’t have a bunch of fake profiles created to counteract the majority of cashouts.
It could be really easy to set up a bunch of accounts, load them up with digital money, and say that you need to pass these in win percentage as well as money in order to cash out. So based on the personal experience of me and my friends, I’d have to say that it’s doubtful that you’ll actually get your money, despite the rumors that they do have payouts. By the way, if I ever get money from them out of my account, I’ll be sure to let you know and update this post.
Is CentSports really worth your time?
I think Cent Sports is pretty fun to use regardless of whether you actually get paid. Sure getting paid is the main goal, but it’s fun to: A) not have to deposit money and B) be able to gamble online for free. It’s also fun to see who makes the better picks between you and your friends. And I’d say that if you ever are going to do sports betting online to try to make money, that you have some idea of how the betting lines work, what an over/under is, and what the spread is.
CentSports is a great tool to teach you how to properly bet so that you can hone your skills. If you really are going to end up spending real money on sports betting someday, you should probably be able to prove to yourself that you have a good track record on CentSports. It really teaches you money management and that sometimes the heavy favorite gets upset. So as to whether CentSports is worth your time is completely up to you. I’m only on there occasionally, so it’s more of a fun thing and doesn’t really take long to make a new bet for a baseball game I’m about to watch.
Have you used CentSports.com with success or had a bad experience?
If you have used CentSports and made it above $20 and requested a payout, what has your experience been like? Have you actually got the money that you wanted to “cash out?” I’m looking to hear from some legitimate people that have actually gotten a check in their name from CentSports. I’m sure people have been paid out, but I also know (based on several friends making it to over $100 that there are some clear problems with the way that business is handled on that particular website.
Although at one point I made it over $100, I was just having fun and I ended up blowing the money on a Boston Red Sox opening game bet against the Twins last year. Since I have not recovered from that stomp out. I don’t really take the website quite as serious since I
Want to give CentSports.com a test run for fun?
If you are interested in doing some free sports betting just for fun, you can give CentSports a shot and see what you think. They don’t really collect much personal information at all (other than your first name, last name, where you live, and your email address). I have been a member for awhile and I can say that they haven’t signed me up for any other spam or shared my personal information with other companies for mailing lists.
I’m assuming that they need more information about you when you cash out so that they can make sure that you’re a legitimate person and aren’t one person operating 100 fake accounts with different email addresses. I think that they should actually probably beef up security in some way so that they only have members that are verified. A photo verification system would be easy to use to solve this problem.
Anyways, if you don’t want to sign up for a real sports betting website, you can always check out CentSports.com and give it a shot. If you use the link below, you’ll be able to sign up and be my friend so that you can see my bets. Just a word of warning though if you sign up as my friend, please don’t make any lame comments about my bets when or if they lose because I will not hesitate to delete you from my list of friends.
