1) Walking the dog — Taking your dog for a walk is a win-win situation. You can use the time spent walking your dog to think of great new blogging ideas. Going outside and getting away from the computer is a great way to think of new blogging ideas. When you take your dog for a walk, consider bringing along a small notepad to quick jot down any ideas that come to mind so that you do not forget by the time the walk is done. My dog enjoys the exercise, sniffing around, and taking care of business while on a walk much more than a quickie in the front yard. If you haven’t taken your pet for a walk in awhile, consider this time to benefit your pet and a personal time to think of new ideas for your blog. Everyone benefits from the walk and getting some fresh air! If you currently walk your dog on a daily basis, this blogging tip should be right up your alley! Don’t waste your time staring at the computer screen, straining your brain to think of new ideas — get up and go for a walk!
2) Laying on the beach – I cannot really think of a better way to think of great ideas than to be relaxed on the beach. I’ve gone to Riviera Maya all inclusive resorts and definitely understand how good it feels to experience the atmosphere of the beach. With the sun beating down across your body and a strawberry margarita chillin’ at your side, everything feels good and you will naturally be able to think clearer. Feeling a little stressed or aren’t able to think of new creative ideas? Treat yourself to a nice vacation at the beach and I guarantee that you will be able to think of a bunch of good article topics for your blog! Once again, bring along a small notepad and write down all topics that come to mind. By the end of your relaxation on the beach, chances are good that you will think of at least 5 new quality ideas to write about.
3) Relaxing in your bed – Right after I wake up in the morning, I like to lay in bed and think a little bit about my day and what I want to accomplish. After doing a little bit of morning thinking, even though I still have major brain fog, I begin thinking about my blog. Sometimes my thoughts keep randomly changing from one new good blogging topic to another. If a quick morning wake-up brainstorm session doesn’t work out well, you can always try it before going to bed. I have tried both morning and before going to bed and have found them both helpful. I prefer to brainstorm right after I wake in the morning because at night, I tend to get tired, fall asleep, then forget my ideas by the time I awaken the following morning. At night, it would probably work out well if you kept a notebook, near or under your bed to slide out and quick write down an idea for your next blog entry.
4) Listening to music – Usually, while playing some comfortable, relaxing music, I am able to enjoy myself and generate a fairly large list of blogging ideas. I personally love listening to music and though it does break my concentration when writing a blog entry, it actually helps me when brainstorming. The key for a successful brainstorming session while listening to music is to not have it too loud and to keep it at a comfortable volume. Turning up music too loud will literally not allow you to think — the music will take over. Sitting down, lying in bed, listening to music away from the computer is usually more enjoyable for me to listen to. Listening to music may not help everyone think of new ideas, but I’ve found that relaxing, chilled out music like Jack Johnson’s or Ray Barbee’s really helps me out. Give it a shot sometime and let me know what you think!
5) At a wellness spa – Ever had a nice relaxing day at the spa? If you have, you know exactly how good it feels and understand that it can be extremely relaxing. Being relaxed is a key way to generate new ideas and keep a creative thought process going. If you’ve never been to a spa, it is definitely worth treating yourself to every once and awhile. Go into the spa extremely tense and walk out completely relaxed. If you cannot seem to relax or think of new ideas to blog about, a day at the spa could prove to be a solid investment. As you’re getting an extensive back massage or some other form of therapy, focus on thinking about new blogging ideas. Don’t hesitate to bring in your electronic notepad or a notebook to write down any ideas that drift to mind during the relaxation process!
6) Planes, Trains, Subways — Do you know how to stay productive while riding an airplane, train, or the subway? When traveling, be sure to make the trip worth your while. Everyone can sit down and think random thoughts about their life, the day, the weather, food, and their friends. Long airplane flights are boring when you have nothing to do. When I forget my iPod, see the guy next to me snoozing, and everyone on the plane quietly chatting, I get drowsy and feel like drifting off. What better way to keep yourself occupied and productive than to write down all new blogging ideas?! Think about your blog, think about other blogs, think about your online goals, and have a brainstorm session right on the plane!
I don’t often ride trains, but you could use the same strategy that I recommended for airplanes when sitting on a long train ride. I cannot imagine that riding trains are all that popular, but for those of you that happen to frequently ride on trains, keep this in mind. Not everyone drives a car to work: many people in New York City commute daily via the subway. It is more efficient than taking the taxi and using your own car (traffic jams aren’t uncommon). Traveling from one destination to another always frees up time to think. Use the time spent each day riding the subway to think of new, innovative blogging and business ideas! I know that the subway can get a little bit loud at times, but consider getting noise canceling headphones or some Bilsom Thunder T3 earmuffs to drown out the sound! A huge list of creative ideas can be created if you use at least one of the six ways I’ve mentioned on a daily basis!
Get away from your computer
I think probably the most important thing to think of new ideas is to get away from your computer! Getting away from the computer definitely helps me think of good ideas to blog about. There’s something about sitting by the computer that doesn’t allow my brain to fully open up to new ideas and get into a state of flow. Strap up your tennis shoes, get out of the house, and free your life from blogging for a little while. Whatever way works best for stimulating new ideas for blogging articles, is what you should do. I suggest giving all these methods a valid shot and then continuing to use the best methods that work for you. 1Thanks for sharing your ideas Andrew. Great article. I am going to start walking my dog more often to help me think of new ideas and of course to keep him healthy :)
