If you don’t want to market your website, it doesn’t matter if you have the highest quality content in the world; nobody will be around to read it! When marketing your blog, do you have a sense of urgency to increase your blogs popularity? I’ve noticed that unless people own a blog that is already popular, most put half-hearted efforts towards blog promotion. If you cannot seem to find the necessary state of mind to begin marketing, here’s something for you to try: “Market like you’re trying to win a contest!” What exactly do I mean by “marketing like you’re trying to win a contest?” I mean that if you were trying to win a blogging contest with the rest of the web, you would take the necessary steps to win that contest. The steps that you would take to achieve that goal are the steps you should be taking right now! Now is when you should be bringing your A-game to the table! If you are marketing, but not marketing to ensure success and surpass your current personal best, your time spent with marketing efforts is being wasted. You all must realize that simple things like StumbleUpon and Digg will only help market your blog to a certain extent. Don’t get me wrong, social networking programs can definitely help, but you also must consider things like buying advertisements on other blogs and purchasing that new customized website layout.

Do yourself a favor [right now] and ask yourself if you are currently motivated about marketing your blog. Being motivated about website marketing is really one of the only ways to get yourself to become a popular blogger. Did you ever notice that when 2 blogs have a competition with each other, they both seem to significantly step their game up? Both competitors keep pushing their current limits to take their blogs to the next level! If you want to develop a popular website and become a popular blogger, you must start pushing your current limits to the maximum. Lately, I’ve been using the Tyler Cruz Vs. Gyutae Park contest as an example because it was a very well-executed blogging contest. Both Tyler and Gyutae stepped up their marketing game by offering Entrecard credits, T-shirts, and money. Now, I’m not suggesting that you should give away contest prizes all the time; this would be completely unnecessary. I am, however, suggesting that you should constantly promote your blog to the same degree of intensity as if you were having a contest. Do you spend a lot of time writing new quality blog entries? Well, all of that time will be wasted if you do not spend the necessary time to successfully market your blog.

Some things you should constantly be doing to keep your online business expanding:

  • Keep pushing your marketing limitswhen you get enough money, buy that custom layout / buy an advertising square on a popular website
  • Constantly keep promoting your website via word of mouth - tell your friends, make business cards, create that T-shirt, etc.
  • Market smarter, don’t overwork yourself - never be afraid to try new tactics, but put your marketing time towards the strategies that give your website the most success; (these are different for each website)
  • Treat your website like a business - What steps will you take to help the business grow and increase its improve its overall appeal.

Currently, as owner of AndrewPavelski.Com, I have decided to “go all out” towards successful blogging and blog promotion. I am always looking for new marketing opportunities and am always thinking of new, innovative ideas to help this website reach its goal. I currently looking to purchase advertising space on a well known, high-traffic blog and guest write for several popular blogs. As a website with the goal to make $10 million dollars, it is imperative that I always bring my “A-game” to the marketing table.

You should always be on your toes, so to speak, and be ready to experiment with your next creative marketing idea. Sure, not all marketing ventures will work out, but you’ll never know which tactics work out well for your site unless you’ve already tried them. What works for someone else’s website will not necessarily work for yours… When marketing, it is never good to put all your eggs in one basket [and rely heavily on one source of traffic]. Expand your website’s overall appeal, recommend your site to others, and keep pushing hard to achieve your goals. In the end, the only person you should be in competition with on the web is yourself: push yourself, stretch your current limits and efforts, and be your personal best. Don’t settle for what another blogger can do, when you know you’ve got potential to do more. Remember, if you can successfully push your own personal limits, positive results will naturally follow!
