My favorite of the social networking programs is StumbleUpon. StumbleUpon is the most fun for me to use, the easiest for me to use, and I consider it the current king of social networking for Andrew Pavelski dot com. Yes, I know some articles can really take off on Digg, reddit, and del.icio.us, but I haven’t played around with those as much. Within this article, I will share my current knowledge and give you some awesome tips to help you maximize your success using the social networking program StumbleUpon.

For those who don’t already have StumbleUpon:

permalinks.jpgAn introduction to permalinks

Just recently, I had someone evaluate my blog. They liked the content and what I’d done so far, but there were definitely some areas that they thought I could improve in. We began chatting and got around to talking about permalinks. In case you aren’t aware, permalinks are “URL’s that point to a specific blogging entry, even after the blogging entry has passed from the front page to the archives.” When you open up WordPress, and click on the “Options” tab, and find the tab entitled “permalinks.” After clicking on the permalinks tab, you are given options to edit their structure. It was recommended to me, by the man that evaluated my blog, that I change my permalink structure from a “numeric” style to a “date and name based” style to improve my site’s search engine rankings.

top10.jpgEver wonder why blogging posts with numbered lists become so popular? Blogging posts with numbered lists are a great way to increase website traffic as well as increase blog popularity. I’ve highlighted several reasons why using numbered lists in blog posts are more effective and more attractive to readers than regular posts. Ironically, I’ve chosen to use numbered-list format for this post to explain why numbered lists happen to be so effective!

Why are numbered lists considered highly-effective?

big_hug.jpgAfter recently reading about “rssHugger” on John Chow dot com, I decided to check into it more. The rssHugger was created by the 18-year-old-internet-entrepreneur, Collin LaHay. I am new to the rssHugger concept, but wanted to give it a valid shot to see if it actually helps boost blog traffic. From what I’ve read, it seems like a quality idea and I’ve got absolutely nothing to lose by trying it out!

What is rssHugger?

rssHugger is a new website developed to help bloggers promote their blogs, and to help visitors discover new blogs that write about subjects that the readers are interested in. Through the power of the internet and viral marketing, rssHugger looks to bring blog writers and blog readers closer together. If you own a blog, you can get your own page on rssHugger for 10 years for giving an honest review of the site on your blog. If you want to join rssHugger but do not want to review our site, you can pay a one time review fee of $20. rssHugger will be the first ever quality, spam free, and viral rss directory strictly for bloggers.

Lately, the program “Entrecard,” which allows web owners to drop a virtual business card when visiting other websites, has taken the blogging world by storm. According to Entrecard.com, bloggers now place “3,000 ads per day on Entrecard.” Currently, I have my Entrecard widget installed into this site’s right sidebar and though it is a bit big for the slot, it looks better than the smaller Entrecard widget option. Many people seem to be using taking advantage of Entrecard to spam their site’s name around the web. This is one reason that blogger John Cow felt compelled to remove the E-card widget from his website. In my opinion, much of the generated Entrecard traffic isn’t very valuable. Many people just quick look for the Entrecard widget, drop their card, and leave. There is definitely potential to have a high bounce rate from Entrecard visitors.

If you don’t want to market your website, it doesn’t matter if you have the highest quality content in the world; nobody will be around to read it! When marketing your blog, do you have a sense of urgency to increase your blogs popularity? I’ve noticed that unless people own a blog that is already popular, most put half-hearted efforts towards blog promotion. If you cannot seem to find the necessary state of mind to begin marketing, here’s something for you to try: “Market like you’re trying to win a contest!” What exactly do I mean by “marketing like you’re trying to win a contest?” I mean that if you were trying to win a blogging contest with the rest of the web, you would take the necessary steps to win that contest. The steps that you would take to achieve that goal are the steps you should be taking right now! Now is when you should be bringing your A-game to the table! If you are marketing, but not marketing to ensure success and surpass your current personal best, your time spent with marketing efforts is being wasted. You all must realize that simple things like StumbleUpon and Digg will only help market your blog to a certain extent. Don’t get me wrong, social networking programs can definitely help, but you also must consider things like buying advertisements on other blogs and purchasing that new customized website layout.
